I was born in New Jersey and have lived throughout the United States, spending many years in Arizona and attending the University of Arizona, where I developed an appreciation for the power and beauty of the desert southwest. I have studied art for a number of years and enjoy working in acrylic and oil, and I try to paint one painting each day! My blog is located at

Mary Beth Day - Acrylic, Encaustic Email:
marybday@hotmail.com
Visit: www.mbdayart.com
When painting scenes of rural Washtenaw County, Mary Beth is attracted by its vivid imagery, especially that found in farmsteads. Using a representational style, she strives to achieve a painterly quality in her canvases. Her landscapes capture horizontal sunlight and long shadows, dewy atmosphere, and seasonal changes. She’s especially interested in recording the elements of time’s impact on our lovely barns; highlighting their stateliness as they age. Pictured: Lodder Field, Acrylic, 18” x 24”
Mary Dempsey - Watercolor Email:
mkdempsey30@femworks.net
Sandra Difazio - Oil, Watercolor Email:
davdif@provide.net
A traditional oil artist and avid plein air painter, Sandra combines the intricacies of composition and technique with what she sees, what she loves, and what she knows from her own experiences. The surface of her work is a varying impasto of color applied over a toned canvas. Some edges are blended to create subtle gradations of color while vivid or bright colors are placed next to one another over deeper richer hues. Nature and Life have taught Sandy many lessons and every new painting is a journey for her to discover more facets of their elusive beauty. It is Sandy’s hope that, through her work, she may joyfully share her reverent admiration of nature’s awesome and eternal beauty and the essence of human character. Judy Enright - Oil, Watercolor, Printmaking Email:
judyenright@sbcglobal.net
Visit: www.judyenright.com
Judy Enright’s art is a construct of ideas derived from many sources to present insights into universal truths and explore the concept of paradox in our ever-expanding world. These original oil paintings represent modern folklore developing a new mythology. Most series include a musical
theme, while all the series show a view of the human condition along with our inner kinship. The aim is to educate the spirit of our age that transcends language and religious barriers, to help viewers of every background and walk of life develop and strengthen their inner vision and recognize beauty in unfamiliar contexts. Susan Falcone - Watercolor Email:
sfalcone@umich.edu
Susan, an Ann Arbor native, has been a naturalist and painter since childhood. Her watercolors of birds, small mammals, wildflowers and insects reflect her lifelong research, observations and field studies of nature. Her subjects are portrayed within a small part of their natural environment, focusing on composition, color, and shape. A tangent is the adaptation and incorporation of Celtic designs into some of her compositions.
Susan’s award-winning works are painted mainly using ”glazing” - numerous transparent layers of pigment which produces the resulting glowing colors. Of special interest to her are the songbirds and marsh birds, particularly herons, that frequent southeast Michigan, including her own rural property on Frains Lake, where she provides diverse habitats for local wildlife, and where plantings of native wildflowers attract songbirds, hummingbirds, and butterflies. Kath Frajbis - Printmaking Email:
kfrajbis@msn.com
Visit: www.kathfrajbis.com
Kath is an intaglio printmaker, born and raised in the UK (where she has exhibited widely). She discovered early on whilst doing her BA that the printmaking department was where she was meant to be – where she could express herself in a painterly way as well as a sculptural way. All her works begin as drawings, then develop as she works the plates. Her favourite method is lino etching combined with collagraph; but she will experiment with any surface (all materials having their own qualities to exploit). She finds that there are so many possibilities to explore within each piece that she rarely produces large editions, choosing instead to make “suites” so that other colours can enter the working process, or masks can be used to print only small areas of the plate.
Subject matter is derived from landscapes, as well as objects found within landscapes. An ongoing theme in Kath’s work is mankind’s influence on landscapes. She enjoys exploring the area of presentation in her work to enhance the 3D elements, and some pieces are floated in shadow boxes, others are displayed in window mats, and some are sewn into frames.
Kath was the recipient of the prestigious Julian Trevelyan award on two separate occasions. She has been included in many exhibitions since coming to MI in 2000 and has won honorable mentions for her work. Pictured: Window to Another World: I, Lino etch/Lino cut, 33” x 21”
Teresa Freed - Pastel Email:
tafreed@yahoo.com
Visit: www.TeresaFreed.com
Teresa is captivated by light and shadow, mood and atmosphere and the spirit of nature. She finds that the brilliant hues available in pastels allow her to depict these elusive characteristics. She has exhibited in numerous juried shows and is a member of the Ann Arbor Women Artists and the Chelsea Painters. Teresa is represented by the Chelsea Gallery in Chelsea, Michigan and the River Street Gallery in Manistee, Michigan. Her work is featured in the book of poetry and art,

Karen K. Gallup - Assemblage, Mixed Media/Collage, Sculpture Email:
buffigal@gmail.com
Visit: www.KarenGallup.com
For Karen’s sculptures, she collects stuff: old stuff, rusted and broken stuff. She hunts for stuff in garage sales, thrift shops and flea markets. She has been known to dumpster dive and pick through her neighbor’s trash. Her studio is floor-to-ceiling stuff waiting to be rediscovered and reinvented.
Karen’s work is intuitive - the objects themselves suggest what they will be. She combines dissimilar objects with screws, rivets, solder, welds, and occasionally glue, to form a recognizable, if fictional, whimsical and sometimes outrageous sculpture. By using unrelated objects (most of which retain their original patina), she hopes to make the viewer examine and re-examine, to be surprised and amused, to have an ”a ha” moment when recognizing objects out of context.
In Karen’s collage pieces, she plays with perspective, pushing and pulling objects forward and back out of their natural relationship to one another. She loves to include the implausible and to cause the viewer to look twice to see the inconsistency even though the areas and colors blend seamlessly and flow into each other making a subtle whole. Animals have played an important part in her life and are included in many of the pieces. Her sense of humor comes through in this work. Pictured: Stargazer: Newton,

Barbara W. Gilbert - Watercolor, Mixed Media/Collage Email:
bw.gilbert@comcast.net
Barbara’s water media and collage paintings are abstracted images and ideas taken from her life experiences with people and places. Having lived in Hawaii and Florida, tropical flora, landscapes and light inspire her simplified shapes, collaged texture and fresh color. In addition, the large, single figures that Barbara paints reflect her love for human gesture and unique dress.
For Barbara, art is a life long passion. It includes an Art History degree from the University of Michigan, visits to art museums in the United States and in Europe, and active participation in several art groups and workshops. Barbara has exhibited her work throughout Michigan for the past two decades. She is proud to have her work represented in private homes as well as in permanent collections of the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery, Dearborn, Michigan and Jackson Community College, Jackson, Michigan. Ava Gilzow - Pastel Email:
steveorava@gmail.com
Ava is able to pursue her lifelong interest in art after retiring from a teaching career. She discovered a love for pastels that quickly grew into a passion, and her intent is to interpret a sense of wonder in ordinary landscapes, skies, and water. She is interested in capturing a moment in time, and enticing the viewer to feel a longing for reconnection to the natural world. Ava has won three awards in AAWA juried shows, she participates in exhibits with the Ann Arbor Area Pastelists, and she was accepted into the Great Lakes Pastel Society 2009 juried show. Ava had a solo show at two Saline locations in 2009. She is represented by River Gallery in Chelsea. Pictured: My Neighbor’s Farmhouse, Pastel, 17” x 23”

Marcy Gray - Oil, Pastel, Watercolor Email:
marcygray123@yahoo.com
The complexity of the human body and face has never failed to challenge and intrigue Marcelle whether she is working in pastels, oil or watercolor. Behind each painting, there always exists a story that needs to be told. The slightest gesture of the model denotes a wealth of subtle emotion. In attempting to capture that small gesture, Marcelle is involved in a process of discovery that requires the greatest sincerity as well as the greatest humility that she can give.
